Marriage and Family Counseling is the second in a series of courses offered by The Expositor’s Academy, designed to equip followers of Christ about what the Bible says about God’s design for marriages. This course also seeks to teach you how to counsel those who are preparing for marriage or those who are in a marriage and are struggling to be all that God designed them to be. This course is open to single and married men and women.
This course is focused on the specific areas of marriage and the family. Topics covered include the purpose of marriage, divorce, and remarriage; roles of husband and wife; physical intimacy within marriage; communication and conflict resolution, spouse and child abuse; stewardship of time and priorities, preventing and rebuilding after adultery; parenting, and family counseling (case studies are also discussed).
A prerequisite for this class is a previous Bible Study Principles (Hermeneutics) course and the Introduction to Biblical Counseling course. However, we will make exceptions for those who intend to take both these courses soon.
The course fee is ₱1,300 and includes all reading materials, access to Canvas (the online platform we use for assignments and course communications), and a subscription to a digital library of 3,000+ ebooks).
About your Instructor
Devraj Urs grew up in India as a Hindu and went to California in the 1990s to obtain a master’s degree in industrial engineering. God sovereignly drew him to Jesus Christ in his late twenties while working in California. He has been married to his wife Tristy for over 25 years. He served as a church pastor in California for seven years before he completed his Master of Divinity (2011) and a Master of Theology in Bible Exposition (2013) from The Master’s Seminary. After serving at Grace Community Church in teaching, discipleship, and counseling, the elders of Grace Community Church ordained him to the gospel ministry and sent him to India, where he served as a Pastor-Teacher-Trainer at the TMAI Seminary for over three years before God sovereignly moved him to the Philippines in 2017.
Devraj currently serves as one of the Pastors of Soli Deo Gloria Christian Church in Davao and the Director of The Expositor’s Academy in Southern Philippines by providing leadership in the ministry of training national pastors in local churches in Mindanao, parts of Visayas, and parts of South Asia to rightly divide the Word of God in preaching, teaching, and counseling.
